1. Background and Challenge

Existing vehicle rear and side mirror systems are based on flat images, which can make it difficult for drivers to accurately understand distance and spatial relationships. This is especially important in situations such as parking or reversing. Because of this, interest in 3D-based vehicle vision systems has been increasing in the automotive industry.


2. MOPIC’s Solution

Renault installed a 3D camera in the vehicle rear camera system and developed a rear view mirror system prototype using MOPIC’s glasses-free 3D display module and 3D image processing technology. A system was implemented to display video from the rear camera in real-time 3D.


3D Rear View Display Optimized for Vehicle Environment

MOPIC developed a 9.2-inch glasses-free 3D display optimized for vehicle environments.

System Integration with Native 3D SDK

Using MOPIC’s Native 3D SDK, 3D functionality could be added to the existing rear camera system without major structural changes. The system also converts rear camera video into real-time 3D with ultra-low latency.
